Sweetie Petie was a damsel in
distress, wandering the streets of a small city in Kentucky for weeks,
starving, infested with fleas, teeth worn down to nubs, Petie's once-lustrous dark brindle coat
was covered with scratches and matted with burrs. The future looked grim indeed.
Petie’s first real break came when she
was picked up by animal services in Hartford, Kentucky,
and
taken to the local kill shelter. The tiny dog was shaking and terrified,
crouching in the corner of a run of what must have been for her
a loud and frightening place. Petie could have died in
that shelter, but thankfully, someone was already looking out
for her. Petie’s second break came
when one of the shelter workers called her friend, an FBVillage
volunteer, to take Petie out of the shelter.
Petie needed
all the things her
foster mom and FBVillage could give her: tons of TLC, a stable
environment, a good bath, flea treatment, veterinary care for
her hurts, including the removal of a tumor from her shoulder -
which thankfully turned out to be benign - and time to heal,
both her body and her soul.
Sweetie Petie was
a very timid, scared girl when she arrived in foster care.
Now, Petie gets along great with her
furry brothers and sisters, although she does chase cats! After some
time and a great deal of encouragement, Petie has begun trusting two-legged friends
and family as well. She is fond of kissing people’s legs! This
little dog that started out hiding under the bed now snores on top of
it. We believe Sweetie Petie is destined to make some
family, or person, a wonderful companion, and that her story
will have a happy ending indeed.
